PMA 2010

wayne

I went to the PMA 2010 show this past week.  For those who’ve never heard of it, the PMA, which used to stand for Photo Marketing Association, show is a convention where a lot of the big players in the photo industry like to show off their newest gear.  At least that’s what it used to be.  This year the show felt a lot smaller than one I went to a few years back,  heck Canon wasn’t even there, and most of the big guys had already announced their newest stuff before the show even started.

Lightroom Camera Profiles

wayne

I use Adobe Lightroom to adjust my RAW images and when Adobe introduced the ability to use different camera profiles I played around with them as any camera geek probably would.  At that time I found that I preferred the standard profile to the custom camera ones, so I promptly forgot all about them.  Until recently that is.  (The following is really only meant  for camera geeks)

Update: After some more research I realized I made a mistake when I created the profiles.  I’ve uploaded new profiles that were made correctly.

Not wedding related but cool anyway

wayne

A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to be on a private jet. Unfortunately it stayed on the ground, but I just couldn’t resist getting a picture of myself in it. The picture was taken with a cheap cell phone, so the quality is pretty bad.

Valentine Wedding

wayne

Gothic Hallway

I shot a wedding this past Valentine’s day and it turned out to be the type that wedding photographers dream of: Pretty bride at a beautiful location.  The picture above is probably my favorite shot.  See the gallery below for a few more shots including an infrared shot and a couple of lensbaby shots.

WPPI

wayne

I just got back from the WPPI show in Vegas and I’m still a little dazed.  I don’t have any pictures of the show, because I learned long ago not to bring anything heavy to conventions.  A colleague of mine, Elizabeth Etienne was speaking at the convention and had a booth there.  She was nice enough to let me bum in her hotel room, so in return I helped her carry some stuff around.  In between helping her, I got to wander around quite a bit and saw some cool stuff, well cool to wedding photographers anyway.  What really surprised me was I bumped into a couple of photographers I knew and I never bump into anybody.  I’m not anywhere near to being an established photographer, but I guess I’ve been around long enough to bump in colleagues at a convention.

Back to the show….  I saw quite a few things that gave me ideas for my business and actually bought a few items, one of which I’ll probably review later on.  The coolest thing though is what Pocket Wizard came out with.  If you’re a photographer who uses Nikon’s iTTL or Canon’s ETTL, you need to check out this link: http://www.pocketwizard.com/inspirations/technology/controltl/

Hacked!

wayne

About a week ago I found out that all my sites base off of wtweddings.com was hacked and it was redirecting visits to a malware site.  My web host says its my site, but I have a feeling it’s my web host that got hacked.  Either way it’s all cleaned up now.  If anyone reading this visited my sites between 1/1/09 and 1/23/09, you should do a virus scan on your computer.

I found out my site had a problem when I tried to visit it with Firefox.  Firefox refused to load the site, instead displaying a red box that said my site was an Attack Site.  Apparently Firefox reads from a list that Google maintains about bad sites.  If you have a website and this happens to you, clean up your site then go here https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/diagnostics.  Sign up for the service and add your site.  Then on the Overview page for your site click the “review” link.  If your site is clean, this should remove you from the bad list within 24 hours.

Welcome

wayne

Welcome to my first blog.  I don’t really have a specific plan for what I want to do with this, it’ll probably just be a place for me to write about random things that pop up during my journey as a photographer.  I was never much into writing diaries as a kid, so updates probably won’t be very regular.

Anyway, thanks for reading.
