Machu Picchu
Over Thanksgiving, instead eating too much turkey, I went to Machu Picchu. A gallery and a few more words after the break.
If you’ve never heard of it, here’s a quote from Wikipedia:
Machu Picchu is a pre-Columbian Inca site located 2,430 metres (8,000 ft) above sea level. It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, which is 80 kilometres (50 mi) northwest of Cuzco and through which the Urubamba River flows. Often referred to as “The Lost City of the Incas”, Machu Picchu is one of the most familiar symbols of the Inca Empire.
I was only at the site itself for one day, but it was well worth the trip. The views were absolutely breathtaking, but the most memorable experience was standing on top of a peak 1000 ft above the site in a downpour waiting for the view to clear up enough for a picture. Thank goodness it wasn’t a thunderstorm or I would have been toast. Anyway, enjoy the shots I’ve picked for the gallery.
